Christmas and New Year FAQs

  • Will there be snow?

A great question! Whilst we can never guarantee the weather, in 10+ years of living in Whistler, we’ve never seen a Christmas Day without snow on the mountain.

  • Are the houses decorated? Will there be a tree?

We love decorating for Christmas! We have a decorated Christmas tree in the house from around mid-December through to New Year. We also put wreaths on the front doors, and poinsettias too.

  • Does Whistler feel Christmassy?

Some guests describe it as Who-ville, or lapland! The whole village is covered in Christmas lights, as well as Christmas lights in the residential neighbourhoods. If it snows, you’re going to feel like you’re in a movie - We’ve been here for more than 10 years and it’s still amazing!

  • Can we ski on Christmas Day?

Yes! And I highly recommend that you do! Our Christmas Day usually involves an early breakfast/present unwrapping with the kids, then we all head to the mountain for a family ski. The afternoon is for eating and spending time all together.

  • I don’t want to cook Christmas dinner for everyone!

We don’t blame you - and you don’t have to! There are a variety of options; delivery, dining out, or a personal chef.

  • I don’t want to ski - is there anything else to do?

You’re spoilt for choice - sleigh rides, tubing, snowmobile, sledding, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, ice-skating, shopping, cinema, bars, restaurants, events. Find out more on our Whistler Guide.

  • What happens on New Years Eve?

Whistler is all about family friendly - we have a great fireworks display and ‘countdown’ at 8pm, then the main event at midnight in the Skier’s Plaza. It’s the place to be! After which you have lots of options - all the bars and restaurants have events and parties.
